I Am Malas

It all started with a trip to Bali in 2011. I feel in love with all the wonderfully blessed Malas on the island. During that trip, I purchased 2000 rudraksha seeds and thus creating one-of-a-kind Mala necklaces was birthed.

For all my Malas, I start with an intention, such as I AM Strong or I AM At Peace. With this intention, I carefully select the crystals, gemstones, seeds or woods that support that intention.

You may use that with an affirmation in the morning or at night before bed. You may wear them as a reminder of their intention throughout the day. You may hold them close during meditations and allow the intention to seep into your very being, blessing you and awakening you to the truth inside of you.

However, you decide to invite your chosen Mala in, it will be the right way for you.

What are Malas?

“More than just beautiful adornment, malas are powerful and symbolic tools for meditation.” – Yoga Journal

A Mala consists of 108 beads plus a “guru” bead. They are used traditionally for meditation and prayer. They are also used to recite mantras 108 times.

Malas have been used for centuries within Hindu communities as well as in Buddhism. The significance of 108 has many theories.

  • There are 108 sacred sites.
  • There are 108 sacred places on the body.
  • The average distance between the sun and the moon to the earth is 108 times their respective diameters.
  • In Vedic Culture, 108 was viewed as a number of the wholeness of existence.
  • Logan Milliken, says she was taught that the number 1 stands for God, the universe or your own highest truth; 0 stands for emptiness and humility in spiritual practice; and 8 stands for infinity and timelessness.

There are much more reasons why 108 is significant, yet,  I wanted to share the ones that have stuck with me all these years. The last one is my favorite.

I often use my Mala to repeat my affirmation 108 times and then on my guru bead, ask my affirmation be spread to all those who want the same desire as my affirmation.

I invite you to browse and find the Mala that is waiting just for you. Each Mala is unique and one-of-a-kind. So once it’s gone, it’s gone!
